BOYS PROGRAMS
The Ridgewood Lacrosse Association (RLA) offers the following Boys Lacrosse Programs for the 2010 season. While the RLA seeks to accommodate all participants, registration in these programs is on a first come – first served basis (and tryouts may apply as specified below). If any of the programs below reach capacity prior to the registration deadline, players will be placed on a wait list. The RLA will make every effort to allow players to play but can make no assurances that players on the wait list will be accommodated or that tryouts will not be required.

HOUSE LEAGUE (NON-TRAVEL)
All boys in grades 3 through 6 may participate in our "In-Town" House League. The 3rd and 4th grade are expected to be structured as separate “clinics”, while the 5th and 6th grade are expected to be combined. The House League may be modified to include 7th grade players who are not assigned to a travel team roster. The House League is designed to meet the needs of the developing lacrosse player (beginner, intermediate and advanced). Emphasis is placed on the fundamentals of lacrosse including, stick skills, footwork, shooting, ground balls, ball movement, offensive and defensive positioning and game play.

Players will be placed onto teams, roughly equal in the number of players and balanced by skill level. There will be 1--2 practices (typically weeknight) and one game (typically weekend) per week.

Games will be played utilizing a 7 v 7 format on a shortened field, or a 10 v 10 format on a full field, depending on the number of players and field availability. The House League will start in mid to late March and conclude in early June depending upon field conditions, as determined by the Village Parks and Recreation department.

As scheduling allows at the discretion of the Boys Program Director, we expect that each 4th grade House League player will have the opportunity to participate in approximately 2-3 travel games during the season.

5th THROUGH 8th GRADE TRAVEL LEAGUE
Travel League play is offered to boys in grades 5 through 8. In addition to the fundamentals of lacrosse, increased emphasis will be placed on specific positional play (attack, midfield, defense, and goalie), team offense, team defense, riding & clearing.   Each travel player will participate in approximately 8-10 regular season games and, at the discretion of the Boys Program Director, may participate in one or more tournaments (depending on availability) prior to the conclusion of the Spring 2010 season.

Interested Travel League players MUST register to tryout prior to the January 8, 2010 registration deadline. Tryout registrations will not be accepted after this date. Tryouts will be conducted by a panel of experienced coaches, in cooperation with the grade specific coaches. The Boys Program Director will approve the final rosters. An additional travel fee will be assessed upon team selection. Attendance at all Travel League practices and games is mandatory for Travel League play. In fairness to other players, those who fail to attend all practices and games may forfeit playing time or their position on the travel team. Exceptions are made for conflicts with school, religious, family or health commitments. Grade specific information is as follows:

5th and 6th Grade Travel League:
5th and 6th grade travel teams will compete separately.   Practices will be held twice a week (typically weeknights) and games will be played on weekends and selected weeknights. In addition to Travel League attendance requirements, 5th and 6th grade travel players must register for the 5th and 6th grade House League and may be required to participate in House League games. Attendance requirements may apply to House League games.

7th Grade Travel League:
Teams at the 7th grade level will be ability based. Approximately 18 players will travel to each game. Competition will be commensurate with player ability. Practices will be held two or three times a week (typically weeknights) and games will be played on weekends and selected weeknights.

We hope to accommodate all interested 7th grade Travel League players. However, the number of registrants, resource limitations and other factors may prevent this. Any 7th grade player who is not assigned to a travel team roster after the scheduled tryouts will be eligible to play in the House League.

8th Grade Travel League:
Team selection at the 8th grade level will be ability based. Approximately 18 players will be selected for the 8th grade “A” team. The balance of the 8th grade travel players will make up the “B” team. The Boys Program Director will approve the final rosters. At the discretion of the 8th grade coaches, players may move from one roster to another, based on ability, attitude and attendance throughout the season. Practices will be held three times a week (typically weeknights) and games will be played on weekends and selected weeknights.

6th GRADE DEVELOPMENT TEAM
6th grade Travel League players who have mastered basic lacrosse skills may register to tryout for the development team. The development team will play 4-6 games against highly competitive teams from towns in the NY/NJ/CT region. These games will be scheduled during the regular season in addition to RLA house and/or travel team games. The team will also have 4‑6 additional practices during the regular season. All players MUST have an excellent attendance record on their RLA travel and house teams (as applicable), in order to participate on the development team. Tryouts will be conducted by a panel of experienced coaches in cooperation with the 6th grade coaches. Approximately 18 players will be selected for the 6th grade development team. An additional fee will apply upon team selection. Additional information will be made available to all 6th grade travel players at a later date.

The RLA is a member of the North Jersey Junior Lacrosse League ("NJJLL"). For more information on the NJJLL, please visit their website at www.njlacrosse.com.
